Description:
Scyliorhinus canicula is a species of catshark native to the coasts of Europe and northern Africa, found from Norway to the Senegal. Their skin is so rough that it can be used as sandpaper.
This species has a personal significance to me, growing up on the south coast of the UK- their “mermaids purse” eggs found washed up on beaches were always a fascination to me, as well as the occasional complete dead specimen (picked over by gulls) - I knew them as Lesser Spotted Dogfish. I had the chance to see live individuals in aquariums, which was always a delight.
This plush is made of custom printed soft velvet fabric to my own design, sewn and stuffed with polyester stuffing. They have plastic metallic safety eyes.
These plushies will come with a certificate of authenticity, detailling their species, the date they were made and proving that they are an original Palaeoplushie handmade in the UK and designed by Rebecca Groom.
As this is a hand made item, it is not intended for children and is designed to be an art piece for adults. As they are stitched by machine, they won't fall apart if handled roughly but have not passed the relevant safety standards to be sold as a child's toy.
